Oil & Cold Wax 2-Day Workshop: “Mark Making w/Collage in Small Spaces”
Location: RIWS Classroom Instructor: Diane Brown www.dianebrownct.com Dates: Thursday & Friday, August 10th & 11th Time: 10am-2pm each day $20 Materials Fee
Description: In this 2-day workshop artists will learn about the oil & cold wax experience from mixing to applying it, and using unconventional tools to create different mark-making textures. Cold wax is buttery soft and when mixed with oil paint adds body, transparency and depth to the painting. Through a process of layering and manipulating different oil and cold wax layers, rich abstract paintings are created, filled with vibrant color and visual texture. This workshop is perfect for the beginner and exciting to the experienced artist.
I will begin this first day with a demonstrations of the oil & cold wax medium. On the first day, you will create two to three paintings on 140 lb. watercolor paper. At the end of your first day or the beginning of your second day you will work on 140 lb. paper divided into several small sized squares. You will continue to make your marks and collage these oil & cold wax paintings until you are finished. Or, you may continue painting on 140 lb paper. These small paintings can be framed or adhered to wooden cradled panels and shown in the many upcoming 2023 Holiday Shows.
