THE ART OF PAINTING WITH ALCOHOL INKS
Abstractly and Representationally

Beginner/Intermediate levels
Instructor: Mary Wojciechowski
Date/Time: TWO DATES AVAILABLE! Students may sign up for BOTH dates or either single day. Instruction on the second session will be catered towards intermediate and advanced students who attended the first session or have some alcohol ink experience. March 25th & April 1st, 10am-3pm
Location: RIWS Classroom (Lower Level Gallery)
12 Students Per Class Maximum

Session One: Beginners

Alcohol inks, highly pigmented and quick drying, differ from other fluid mediums as they flow, intermingle and create distinctive textures, often with unexpected results. One of the benefits of painting with alcohol inks is the opportunity to begin with an abstract composition and then, as the alcohol evaporates and the ink pools, to see the possibility of adding realistic elements

During the five-hour workshop students will explore the unique qualities of alcohol ink and how it may be used for flowing abstracted works, sometimes evolving into representational images. This workshop is designed for those who have had little or no experience using this medium and encourages experimentation with a sense of creative playfulness. Class time will be divided between instruction and demonstrations and students creating many explorative paintings using this exciting and unpredictable medium. The workshop will end with a critique allowing participants to share their paintings and to discuss what they have discovered.

Materials student will need to provide: A paint shirt or apron

All materials included. Materials Fee (This is collected by the instructor): $7.00

Session Two: Intermediate/Advanced

Alcohol inks, highly pigmented and quick drying, differ from other fluid mediums as they flow, intermingle and create distinctive textures, often with unexpected results. One of the benefits of painting with alcohol inks is the opportunity to begin with an abstract composition and then, as the alcohol evaporates and the ink pools, to see the possibility of adding realistic elements.

THE ART OF PAINTING WITH ALCOHOL INKS INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED is designed to build upon prior experience, to learn more advanced techniques in painting with this medium and to work in a larger format, if desired.

During the five-hour workshop students will continue to explore the unique qualities of alcohol ink and how it may be used for flowing abstracted works with the addition of representational elements. More advanced attention to design and color will be emphasized and opportunities to create florals or landscapes using brushwork will be included for those who wish. Class time will be divided between demonstrations of the unique possibilities in painting with this medium and time for personal exploration. As in the introductory class, experimentation with a sense of creative playfulness is encouraged. The workshop will end with a critique allowing participants to share their paintings and to discuss what they have discovered.

Materials student will need to provide: A paint shirt or apron

All materials included. Materials Fee (This is collected by the instructor): $7.00
