JOEL POPADICS - Capture Light & Atmosphere in Your Watercolor Landscapes

3 Day Workshop

Location: RIWS Gallery Classroom

Instructor: Joel Popadics www.watercolorpop.com

Dates: Wednesday-Friday, July 29th-31st

Time: 9am- 4pm each day

In this three-day indoor workshop Joel will demonstrate how to achieve a light and weather effect in your watercolor landscape paintings. Topics will vary from painting skies, sunrises, sunsets, trees, buildings, among other subjects. Following the demonstration, you will have the opportunity to paint and apply the concepts presented. Methods for creating effective clouds and skies will be explored, as well as how to mix a natural looking green. You'll also learn how to achieve spatial depth using a prismatic color approach. Individual instruction will be provided throughout the day.

Participants should plan on making at least two sketches a day and perhaps extra for "do-overs." Make sure you have Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine and Ivory Black plus whatever colors you're comfortable working with. Bring landscape reference pictures with good light and shadows.

Limited to 14 students! As per Rhode Island guidelines, as of June 1st, gatherings of 15 people or less are permitted. Our classroom space is large and equipped to allow for social distancing. We have a large TV monitor for demonstrations so they may be viewed from a distance. Each table is covered in brown paper that may be disposed of and other surfaces and frequently touched areas (including our bathrooms) will be disinfected throughout the workshop. As always, our number one priority is the health and safety of our visitors and students! If state guidelines change or if holding the workshop seems unsafe, it will be cancelled and refunds or class credit will be available to enrolled students. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to reach out, we're happy to help! riwsgallery@gmail.com
