Instructor: Richard Harrington

Date & Time: Friday, September 26th and Saturday, September 27th from 9am - 4pm.

Workshop Description:
Abstract paintings will be done on watercolor paper using acrylic paints. Students may use other
media as well in order to create a mixed media piece. Working in a free and easy manner, painters will use a limited palette to explore: mark-making, shapes, colors, subject matter and personal/historical references. Students will be encouraged to use their own art experiences, habits and interests to explore the way in which they paint, as well as what they paint.

Richard Harrington, a Signature Member of the RI Watercolor Society and other juried state and
regional organizations, is an award winning painter as well as teacher. He has been exploring
non-representational painting for several years and has studied abstract painting with Carole Barnes,
Louise Cadillac, Gerald Brommer, Lenny Long and Katherine Chang-Liu.

“Abstract Art: Art which is either completely non-representational or which converts forms observed in reality into patterns which are read by the spectator primarily as independent relationships, rather than with reference to the original source.”
-Dictionary of Art Terms, Edward Lucie Smith
