Rhode Island Watercolor Society Presents: "Anything Goes" Open Juried Show

The Rhode Island Watercolor Society (RIWS)  is pleased to announce “Anything Goes” Open Juried Show. The RIWS  is proud to support watercolor and other traditional water media materials and methods. With the growth of the arts industry comes the introduction of new equipment and practices. As the options for art making expand, so must the horizons of the RIWS guidelines for our open juried shows. This show encourages all artists to break the norm and we are thrilled to be accepting any 2D media for this juried show. The RIWS resides in the scenic Slater Memorial Park making it one of Pawtucket’s greatest and most beautiful destinations. The Juror will select 65 pieces to be shown in our Main Gallery, Library Gallery and Classroom Gallery. Prizes will be awarded at the opening reception on Saturday July 8th from 2-4pm The gallery is free and open to the public. We welcome artist’s from anywhere in New England to apply to our open juried show, “Anything Goes.”


ELIGIBILITY 

  • Open to all New England Artists.
  • Work must not have been exhibited in a previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show. 
  • Work must have been completed within the last 10 years.
  • Work may not be copied from copywritten material. 
  • No work partially or wholly painted by another. 
  • Work may have been done in a class or workshop, but only using reference material belonging to the sole artist. 
  • Work must be the same work represented by the submitted digital images. No altered digital images may be submitted. 
  • Artwork should be well represented by any digital image submitted. 
  • Work must be the size represented in the submission form. 
  • Work may be listed as NFS (not for sale).

JURYING

Juror will select approximately 65 pieces to be shown in the RIWS gallery. Artists may submit up to 3 images of their work. All 2D media is accepted for jurying.

IMAGE SIZE FOR ENTRY

Only JPEGS up to 5MB with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 dpi File Resolution.

FEES

$15.00 per entry (non-refundable)


NOTIFICATION

Accepted artists will be notified by email and posted on the RIWS website by June 25. If you do not receive your notification by June 26, please contact RIWS at riwsgallery@gmail.com


DROP OFF / DELIVERY

Artist may drop off accepted works June 24th - July 6th

Delivered works must arrive by July 6th, 2017

All shipped artworks must have a paid return label.

All shipped artworks must include a $10 handling fee. (cash or check made out to “Rhode Island Watercolor Society”)
 

ABOUT THE “ANYTHING GOES" EXHIBITION

EXHIBITION DATES: July 8th - August 4th

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday July 8th from 2-4pm

 
SALES

All work sold during the exhibition is subject to the RIWS commission of 25% for Members and 35% for Non-Members.

 
AWARDS

First prize: $100, Second prize: $75 and Third prize: $50, plus Honorable Mentions.

 
FRAMING AND PRESENTATION

  • Work must be presented in a professional manner. 
  • No broken or damaged frames. 
  • Framed work must be under glass unless it is over 22”x 28”, in which case it must be framed with Plexiglas. 
  • Work may be floated within the frame, or presented with a single or double mat. 
  • White or off white mats are preferred, but liner mats less than 3/8" may be colored. Entirely colored mats are acceptable only if they are integral in the completion of the artwork. 
  • Must be wired with no wire or hanger showing when hung. No tooth hangers.


The Rhode Island Watercolor Society reserves the right to exclude from the exhibition any works that do not arrive in sturdy condition, or are deemed too fragile to be successfully exhibited. Work that has not been suitably prepared will be hung at the discretion of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society.
 
Please submit only work that will be available at the time of the exhibition and will remain for its entirety. No accepted entry may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition.
